Police fire warning shots during high-speed chase and arrest in Larnaca

Police officers fired warning shots shortly after midnight on Tuesday to intercept a suspect who rammed a patrol car and assaulted officers during a pursuit in the Dromolaxia rural area.

The suspect, identified as a 25-year-old resident of Larnaca, was eventually apprehended after a search of his vehicle uncovered 93 grams of cannabis, a quantity of cocaine, four live cartridges, and a knife.

Two officers were treated at Larnaca General Hospital for injuries sustained during the struggle and were subsequently discharged.

The incident began when members of the Kiti Police Station, conducting a motorised patrol, approached a stationary vehicle deemed suspicious.

According to police reports, the driver accelerated to avoid the check, intentionally striking the service vehicle before attempting to flee.

Following the deployment of warning shots and a brief chase, the suspect attacked the officers while resisting arrest. The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), in collaboration with Kiti Police, is continuing investigations into the source of the narcotics and ammunition.

The 25-year-old is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court today for a formal remand hearing.
