Police arrested a tenant on Tuesday after a suspected arson attack in a two-storey apartment building in old Nicosia that directly endangered lives.
Nicosia CID detained the man, who lived in the same building, after the Fire Service determined the blaze was started deliberately.
The Fire Service found the fire began inside the flat near the main entrance and found evidence suggesting arson.
One person was found semi-conscious with burns and was carried out of the building before being taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital.
Two people trapped on the building’s roof inhaled smoke but were conscious when firefighters brought them to safety.
The arrested man was due to undergo medical examination whilst Nicosia CID investigations continue. The motive behind the arson remains unknown.
