Police have arrested a 45-year-old in Larnaca in connection with the arson case at the city’s refineries, where a cabin and four vehicles were burnt.
According to statements by Sub-Inspector Georgios Charalambous, head of Larnaca CID, the 45-year-old admitted to the arson of the cabin where he was living as well as the cars belonging to a local mechanic that were not in use.
Suspect cites economic hardship as motive
The man, known to authorities, reportedly said he committed the act as a protest regarding his socio-economic situation, which forced him to live in the cabin erected on the shoreline.
According to Charalambous, the suspect will be brought before Larnaca District Court tomorrow, where police will seek his detention.
The arson occurred today around 4:25am.
