Christos Tsingis has submitted his resignation from the position of parliamentary aide to the independent Famagusta MP, Michalis Giakoumis.
In his letter, Mr. Tsingis stated that following Michalis Giakoumis’ accession to the Democratic Party (DIKO), he is formally submitting his resignation “institutionally and competently.”
He noted that “for reasons of principle and political ethics, it is not possible for me to align myself with this new political venture of yours. I remain of the view, however, that future political developments may create new prerequisites for cooperation within the framework of common goals and struggles.”
Full Text of the Letter (Excerpted)
Dear (friend) Michalis,
I refer to the above matter and inform you, following your accession to the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, that I formally and competently submit my resignation, in writing via this email, from the position of your Parliamentary Aide.
As you know, with my previous resignation, I ceased to perform the duties of Sector Head of Strategic/Political Planning and Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of Democratic Alignment – Democratic Forces Cooperation (DIPA – Cooperation). This resignation was officially and in writing notified to the President of the Alignment on 17/06/24.
Although, institutionally, Parliamentary Aides are employed by the party, I assumed duties as your Parliamentary Aide on 1/11/24. This followed your relevant warning letter, dated 20/09/24, to your previous Parliamentary Aide, for a duration of one month, i.e., until 31/10/24. My assumption of duties also arises from the minutes of the session of the DIPA – Cooperation Parliamentary Group, dated 19/09/24, which were sent to all Members (MPs and Aides) by email on 24/09/24. Furthermore, on 20/09/24, I sent a relevant letter to the Director of the Financial Management Service of the House of Representatives, concerning the change of Parliamentary Aide and the management of issues now falling under the responsibility of the DIPA – Cooperation Parliamentary Group by the new Secretary.
I want to thank you for the opportunity you gave me for further political and parliamentary cooperation. I also thank you for the trust that developed and for the mutual respect that was maintained, even in cases of disagreement. I believe that, in the context of my duties, I contributed substantially to the strengthening of your institutional role as an MP. This was done both through the registration of ex officio issues and, especially, through the promotion of legislative proposals. In most cases, these proposals were unanimously voted by the Plenary.
Particular emphasis was placed on energy issues and the further utilisation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), especially for self-consumption purposes. These interventions aimed at tangibly addressing the cost of electricity, supporting the average citizen and SMEs, as well as simplifying bureaucracy and removing time-consuming and often unnecessary procedures.
Regardless of the personal political choices and convictions of each individual, and how each of us perceives any structured union/consolidation and strengthening of the broader centrist space and its policies—with a philosophy of responsibility, creativity, stability, and consensus, focused on the protection and enhancement of the middle class, SMEs, and the human-centric mixed economic model—which we were all nurtured by and essentially originate from this political philosophy, I wish you every success in your political career.
For reasons of principle and political ethics, it is not possible for me to align myself with this new political venture of yours. I remain of the view, however, that future political developments may create new prerequisites for cooperation within the framework of common goals and struggles.
I kindly request your handling and actions, understanding the time limit for your notification.
