Parliament to vote on zero alcohol tolerance for young drivers within two weeks

The parliament will vote within two weeks on bills imposing zero alcohol tolerance for young drivers, learner drivers and people driving without a licence.

The Transport Committee discussed the legislation on Thursday after the plenum postponed it on 11 December 2025.

Committee chair Alekos Tryfonides, a DIPA MP, said the zero alcohol bills are extremely important as they directly concern young people and serious traffic accidents with fatal outcomes.

After internal committee dialogue, the issues will go back to the plenum in about 15 days for final decisions, he said.
