Paralimni, Ayia Napa tell residents to limit travel as storm Byron to batter area tonight

Municipal authorities in Ayia Napa, Paralimni, and Dherynia have urged residents to restrict unnecessary travel as the island prepares for severe weather system “Byron,” which prompted the Department of Meteorology to issue an Orange Warning.

The extreme conditions, which pose a risk to the road network and local infrastructure, are forecast to hit the eastern parts of the island overnight, starting from midnight on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.

The official warnings call for citizens and visitors to take all necessary self-protection measures, particularly in light of the rapidly worsening weather that is expected to continue into the morning.

The Paralimni-Dherynia Municipality specified that the peak deterioration is expected from Tuesday night until five in the morning on Wednesday, 10 December. It called on residents to exercise increased caution, particularly in areas susceptible to water accumulation and reduced visibility.

The Ayia Napa Municipality issued a similar advisory, urging people to avoid any non-essential travel both within and outside the city limits.

Both municipal authorities confirmed that they are on full operational readiness, with public services remaining on high alert to respond immediately to any incident requiring intervention or support for the public.
