Police responded to the Interior Ministry today with detailed information about allegations being investigated against Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos, according to the ministry’s Director General.
The Police Chief’s letter to the Interior Ministry provides the minister with specific details about the cases being examined, Director General Elikkos Elia confirmed to television stations.
The response came one day after a woman gave a multi-page statement to investigative authorities about an alleged sexual incident from 10 years ago.
Paphos businessman Theodoros Aristodemou had referenced this case the day before, saying he provided names that could help the investigation.
Police are also investigating ex officio a case brought to light by Annie Alexui allegedly concerning violence against the mayor’s wife. The wife has denied the allegations and requested by letter that the investigation into Phedonos be terminated.
With the cases now clearly established, the Interior Minister may immediately suspend the Paphos mayor without needing to seek an opinion from the Law Office, according to sources.
