Troodos received its first snow of the season overnight, blanketing the mountain slopes in a few centimetres and prompting police to restrict access on three roads to vehicles with four-wheel drive or anti-skid chains.
Police told motorists they must use chains on the Karvounas-Troodos, Platres-Troodos and Prodromos-Troodos roads due to light snowfall and low temperatures in the area.
The snowfall, which started last night, left dense frost and stacked snowflakes weighing down tree branches and covering the ground, transforming the landscape into white.
The Department of Meteorology said in its forecast that snow is likely on the highest Troodos peaks, with the snow potentially increasing during the day before melting.
