Over two-thirds of people in Cyprus continue living in households they own – Eurostat

Over two-thirds of people in Cyprus continue living in households owning their home, according to latest data by Eurostat.

Specifically, the population who lived in a household owning their home in Cyprus in 2021 and 2022 was 69.8% and 69.6% respectively.

And this marks a slight increase compared to 2019 and 2020 which was 67.9% and 68.6%, respectively.

At the same time, the latest data by Eurostat also shows that the European South now records higher rates of home ownership.

Specifically, in Portugal in 2022 it was 77.8%, in Spain 76%, in Italy 74.3%, in Greece 72.8% and in Malta 82.6%. Only France shows a lower rate, now standing at 63.4%.

As for Balkan countries, they maintain the very high rates of households owning their home which is around 80%-90%.

Specifically, in Bulgaria the rate is 85.8%, in Romania 94.8%, in Croatia 91.1%, in Latvia 83.1% and in Lithuania 88.6%. Hungary stands at 90.1% and Poland 87.2%.

In the other countries of the European North the rate of home ownership is 59.6% in Germany, 46.7% in Estonia, 51.4% in Austria, 75.4% in Slovenia, 93% in Slovakia, 69.5% in Finland and 64.2% in Sweden.
