The yellow weather warning for severe weather has been upgraded to orange as the low-pressure system Byron brings heavy conditions to Cyprus, the Department of Meteorology said.
The warning is in effect from 7:00 pm this evening until 5:00 am tomorrow, Wednesday.
The department initially said a combination of rain and isolated storms would affect Cyprus, with hail possible during storms and winds varying and strengthening.
According to the forecast, this afternoon will be mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated storms expected at intervals. Hail is possible during storms. Winds will blow up to strong force 5.
Temperatures will drop to 10°C inland, around 13°C on the coast and 3°C in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally.
Tomorrow will be mainly cloudy with isolated rain and isolated storms expected at intervals. Hail is possible during storms.
Temperatures will rise to 18°C inland, around 20°C on the coast and 10°C in the higher mountains.
Thursday will be partly cloudy with isolated rain or isolated storms expected at intervals.
Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy at intervals.
Temperatures will see no significant change on Thursday and will remain near climatic averages. A gradual slight rise is expected on Friday and Saturday.
