Nine people were at risk from a house fire in Larnaca before dawn on Wednesday, the Fire Service has confirmed — three more than the six it initially reported.
All nine residents got out safely before firefighters arrived. One was taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering a panic attack, while the remaining occupants were checked at the scene by ambulance crews for possible smoke inhalation.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis said an electrical fault is the leading theory, though all causes remain under investigation.
“All scenarios are being examined, with an electrical fault being the most likely,” Kettis said.
The Fire Service, the Electromechanical Service and police are jointly investigating the cause.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the entire second floor of the house and brought down its wooden roof.
