The Nicosia-Limassol highway, near the Ayios Tychonas exit in Limassol, was reopened for traffic around 9.30pm after an overturned lorry was cleared from the road, police said.
The incident with the lorry occurred around 2.30 in the afternoon, when the vehicle overturned and came to a stop along the shoulder of the left lane. Its contents, a load of gravel, spilled across the road.
Police rushed to the scene to provide assistance and regulate traffic.
For safety reasons, both lanes heading to Limassol were closed for several hours, with the traffic redirected towards the old Nicosia-Limassol highway through the Ayios Tychonas exit.
At the same time, a tow truck was sent to the area to remove the overturned lorry from the road, and initially the right lane was cleared of gravel and opened up for traffic around 5pm as the left lane remained closed.
The lorry was moved off the road, and the left lane of the highway was opened to traffic at around 9.30pm.
