Minimum-wage hotel industry workers to receive salary hike after Cabinet decision

The Cabinet on Thursday announced an increase in the minimum wage limit and the inclusion of the cost-of-living-adjustment (CoLA) in salaries, for workers in the hotel industry.

Following the Cabinet session, Labour Minister, Yiannis Panayiotou, stated that a decree would be issued to facilitate this increase.

The Minister noted that the wage hike “affects a considerable number of low-paid workers in the hotel industry.” When asked about the start date for these employees to receive increased salaries, he clarified that the decree will have a retroactive effect from June 2023.

Furthermore, the Minister mentioned that the Cabinet has adopted a proposal to submit a bill to the House of Representatives to regulate overdue contributions to the Social Security Fund for beneficiaries inside the European Economic Area (EEA), as well as recipients of state aid.

Panayiotou explained that this regulation was in effect in previous years and has been extended until July 1, 2024.
