Man critical after series of coincidences turn car park help into freak accident (photos)

A 63-year-old man is fighting for his life in intensive care after a series of unlikely coincidences turned a simple act of kindness into a critical injury.

The incident occurred at a shopping centre car park in Nicosia at 11:30 a.m. yesterday, according to the latest information from police. After parking his vehicle, the man noticed a woman trying to park next to him and immediately offered to help.

Initial examinations by Nicosia Traffic Police show the car was running when he attempted to enter it. As he tried to get in, he stepped on the accelerator pedal while his body was still outside the vehicle.

The car moved suddenly, causing the driver’s door to strike his own vehicle parked right next to it. On its return, the door struck his neck with force as he was trying to enter the vehicle.

The 63-year-old collapsed after the impact and was transferred to the hospital, where he was immediately intubated. His condition is considered extremely critical by treating doctors, and he is being monitored in intensive care.

Traffic police rushed to the shopping centre and began examinations, taking statements from those present and the woman he had offered to help.

Police described it as an incident they have never dealt with before, mainly in terms of how many bad coincidences occurred for the critical injury to happen.
