Man behind thwarted terrorist plot on island arrested

Israeli intelligence services (Mossad) have located and arrested the man behind the thwarted terrorist attack against an Israeli businessman on the island.

The man in question, Youssef Shihabazi Abasalilou, was located and arrested by Israeli agents operating in Iran, the CyBC said on Friday, citing a report by Jerusalem Post of the announcement by Mossad.

According to the Israeli media, Mossad announced that during interrogation, the Iranian citizen confessed that he was planning an attack in Cyprus and described the plan that had been drawn up.

The plot was thwarted by the Cypriot intelligence service in cooperation with Mossad.

According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), citing the Mossad announcement, the intended target was an Israeli businessman who lives and has his business in Limassol.

The announcement did not mention any details of the potential victim’s identity or place of residence, CNA reports.

Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot on Thursday night reported on a network of agents of the Revolutionary Guard operating on the island, according to CNA.
