A 39-year-old man has been remanded in custody for eight days after a 43-year-old woman reported being raped and violently attacked by an someone she knew in the Morphou district, police said.
The woman was found injured in the Morphou district area after being left there by the suspect, whom she knew and had met on Saturday evening. Medical examination confirmed she had sustained bruising and injuries to multiple parts of her body.
Morphou police arrested the man following findings from the forensic examination and the woman’s statement. He appeared before Nicosia District Court on Monday, which issued an eight-day remand order. He was expected to be questioned during the day.
Police are investigating charges of attempted murder, abduction and rape. Officers are also reviewing closed-circuit television footage and seeking additional witness evidence related to the case.
Police have issued no public announcement about the case in order to protect the victim, according to philenews.
