Police in Paphos on Wednesday arrested a 48-year-old permanent resident for a case of circulating forged documents as well as in response to a European arrest warrant pending against him.
According to the police, the 48-year-old was wanted by the Paphos CID for selling a vehicle that did not belong to him. According to the person filing the complaint, he had given the car to the suspect to look after while he was abroad.
The suspect, however, allegedly proceeded to sell the vehicle for €3,000.
He faces charges of theft and preparation and circulation of forged documents.
The European arrest warrant had been issued by Latvia for a separate case of fraud and money laundering.
Extradition procedures are expected to be started by the Latvian authorities.
It remains to be seen whether he will be detained in the Republic for alleged crimes here or whether the Republic will proceed with his extradition.
