A 25-year-old man arrested at Larnaca airport last Friday is alleged to be a member of a Hamas-linked network that was planning attacks in Germany and other European countries, according to reports by German and international media.
Kamel M. was detained as he transited through Larnaca on a connecting flight from Lebanon. Cyprus Police arrested him on a red notice and a European Arrest Warrant issued by the German authorities, who had information linking him to the trafficking of bullets and explosives.
German authorities had already moved against the network before the Larnaca arrest.
According to Deutsche Welle, three suspects were arrested in Berlin in early October 2025, with further arrests following before the end of the year — one in London, one at the Germany-Czech border, and one at the Germany-Denmark border. In January, a man identified as Mohamed S. was arrested at Berlin airport on arrival from Beirut.
Mohamed S. is alleged to have worked directly with Kamel M., who is suspected of organising the transfer of 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025. The ammunition was reportedly delivered to other members of the network via Mohamed S.
Investigators believe the weapons were intended for potential attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
According to information obtained by Philenews from Cyprus Police, Kamel M. is not contesting his extradition to Germany.
Should he maintain that position, court proceedings for his handover to the German authorities are expected to be a formality, pending receipt of the formal extradition documentation from the German Justice Ministry.
If the process proceeds as expected, Kamel M. will be brought before the investigating judge at the Federal Court in Karlsruhe, who will rule on whether to order his pre-trial detention.
