Limassol fire remains out of control, but in better condition (updated)

An alarm has been sounded for the Fire Service as a fire has broken out in the Limassol district. Forces are battling the flames, and to extinguish the fire, 11 aircraft, strong ground forces from all departments and the provincial administration, as well as volunteer teams, are operating. The latest information indicates that the fire continues to be out of control but is in better condition.

According to information, the fire is raging in the Mouttagiaka area, near houses, and the smoke is visible from the highway.

According to a later update from the Fire Service (15:22), the fire continues to rage out of control northeast of the Mouttagiaka community in Limassol. The Icarus 2 Plan and a Forward Command Center have been activated. Ground forces are also being reinforced from the Larnaca and Nicosia districts and the Vasilikos Fire Station. Additionally, the Game and Fauna Service, Civil Defence, the volunteer groups Kitas Weather and SupportCY, and crawler vehicles are providing support from the Forestry Department.

Firefighting forces are operating at the scene to extinguish the fire. According to the Fire Service, the fire is raging north of Mouttagiaka in the Limassol district, for which strong firefighting forces from the Limassol Fire Stations are operating with the support of the Forestry Department, the Kitas Weather Volunteer Team, and crawler vehicles.

Five aircraft are also operating with water drops.

Deputy Mayor of Germasogeia: Plea to citizens to avoid the area

The Deputy Mayor of Germasogeia, Christos Papamichael, appealed to citizens not to go to the area unnecessarily, emphasizing that the presence of people in the area seriously hinders the work of the air and ground extinguishing forces and increases the risk for everyone.
