Lawyers challenge seizure of Nicos Clerides’ devices and plan Supreme Court appeal

Lawyers for Nicos Clerides have filed complaints with several bodies over the seizure of his electronic devices and are preparing to challenge at the Supreme Court the search warrant used for raids on his home and office.

According to Philenews information, Clerides’ lawyers have lodged complaints with the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, Greco and Gravo, a group of experts for the protection of the legal profession, over a possible breach of legal professional privilege.

Lawyer Christos Clerides told philenews that on Tuesday, they will apply to the court registry to obtain a copy of the sworn statement based on which police secured the search warrant for Nicos Clerides’ home and law office.

The aim, according to the same information, is to challenge the search warrant before the Supreme Court because it is considered to violate legal professional privilege.

In a complaint letter to the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, Clerides said he objected, both personally and on behalf of his client Nicos Clerides and mutual clients, including Adriana Nicolaou, to the inspection, use, copying, handling and interference with personal and professional data stored on Nicos Clerides’ phone.

“We denounce this blatant violation by the police and request your intervention,” the letter said.

Nikos Clerides is being represented by lawyers Christos Clerides, Alexandros Clerides and Louiza Panayiotou.
