Larnaca starts eight major projects worth €400 million

The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation is building eight major projects worth about €400 million, it announced.

The projects will create sewage systems in towns and villages, and finish flood protection for Larnaca city.

New water pipes being built

Work is happening now on Phase III of the sewage system, costing €110 million and expected to finish by late 2026. The work covers Dromolaxia-Meneou town and the villages of Kiti, Pervolia and Tersefanou.

This project is paid for by the THALEIA programme from 2021-2027.

Biggest project faces delays

The largest project is Phase IV of the sewage system, expected to cost €270 million. This project has big delays and much higher costs than planned. It includes sewage work in Aradippou, Livadia, Oroklini and Pyla.

Planning for the project continues now. This project should start in 2027 and finish in 2033, according to the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation. Money will come from Cyprus and European Union funds.

A smaller sewage system for 170 homes in Livadia will cost about €1 million, paid for by the Agriculture Ministry.

Flood barriers being built

Work continues on flood protection in the Kamares area, which started early in 2025 after being delayed for 10 years. It should finish in 2027.

This project costs about €7 million, paid by the Cyprus government. It aims to stop flooding in one of Cyprus’s most flood-prone areas. The organisation also plans a storm water system to help drain the area, costing about €2 million.

Flood protection for central Larnaca is very important. It will cost €3.4 million and be partly paid by the THALEIA programme. The work will cover Grigori Afxentiou Avenue and nearby streets and should be announced in the coming months.

The organisation is also building a water pumping station at the Oroklini seafront to fix a long-term environmental problem.

The organisation said: “Larnaca District Local Government Organisation continues with clear planning to invest in sustainable development and environmental protection, building the future our people deserve.”
