Storms battered the Larnaca district in the early hours of Tuesday, dumping up to 23.4 millimetres of rain across the area.
Meneou recorded the highest rainfall, whilst measurements across Larnaca city ranged from 16.6mm to 23.4mm in a fairly even distribution, according to Angelos Hadjicharalambous, president of the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation.
The organisation monitors rainfall through six stations placed across the district.
At peak intensity, rain fell at 5 millimetres per minute at both the Meneou station and the Stou Rousia tavern station in Larnaca, Hadjicharalambous said.
The overnight storms brought between a quarter and a fifth of Larnaca’s typical monthly rainfall, depending on location.
Meneou topped the readings at 23.4mm, followed by Aradippou (17.8mm), the Katharis area (17.7mm), Stou Rousia Tavern (17.5mm), the Kokkines area (16.7mm) and Oroklini (16.6mm).
