Larnaca took to the streets in festive celebration following the historic announcement of its designation as European Capital of Culture 2030.
Shortly after the announcement, central roads filled with car horns, flags, impromptu processions and people of all ages celebrating with spontaneity and pride.
Videos show residents pouring into streets, singing, dancing and hanging from car windows in an atmosphere resembling major sporting victories – except this time the triumph belongs to culture.
The celebration peaked when the Common Ground team rose to their feet and danced to the rhythms of “As kratisoun oi choroi” (Let the dances continue) amid applause.
