Ozer Kanli resigned from his position as head of the Kibris Yesil Vatan Media Group on Wednesday, in an unexpected move.
According to Bugun Kibris, he said goodbye to staff at noon and did not give a reason for leaving his job.
He said: “We have come to this point as a result of my personal decision. I will continue to be in the media.”
“There may be speculation, but I do not have any information to put forward,” he added.
The media group is the largest private news organisation in the north, housing two newspapers – Kibris and Cyprus Today – as well as a television channel and a radio station.
Kanli took control of the company’s news output in November 2022 after the company was sold by Polly Peck magnate Asil Nadir to a consortium led by Turkish businessman Fatih Buyuktopcu.
