Positive developments have been recorded in the past 24 hours in the hotel industry regarding labour disputes between employers and trade unions.
The willingness of all parties involved to avoid disruptions in the sector, which would have negative effects on the broader tourism industry, appears to be working catalytically towards finding a mutually acceptable solution.
Direct negotiations yield breakthrough
According to information obtained by Phileleftheros, an agreement was reached on Wednesday afternoon through direct negotiations between trade unions and one of the four hotel groups with which labour disputes existed.
Regarding two other hotel groups with which there were disputes, sources indicate that both sides are also very close to agreement, whilst with the fourth group the mediation process is expected to continue through relevant services of the Labour Ministry.
However, there is optimism that a solution will be found soon for this specific case as well.
Key dispute areas identified
The disputes between the two sides focused mainly on issues concerning payment of the lump sum provided for in the contract, salary increases, the automatic cost-of-living allowance (ATA), and the method of payment for public holidays.
