Cyprus received the Holy Light with official honours on Holy Saturday, with the flame arriving on the island at around 17:00.
A flight operated by AEGEAN Airlines carried the Holy Light to Cyprus after departing from Tel Aviv at 16:00 and landing at Larnaca International Airport at 16:55.
Three priests were on board the aircraft, transporting the Holy Light to the island.
Due to heightened security measures, the aircraft was parked at the old Larnaca airport area.
The government was represented at the reception by Justice and Public Order Minister Costas Fytiyris.
A red carpet was laid at the airport, with a guard of honour formed by military police and the Cyprus National Guard band playing marches.
The Holy Light was received by Metropolitan Timotheos of Vostron, Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Cyprus, together with Archimandrite Stylianos, representing the Metropolitan of Kition Nektarios.
A short prayer service was held in the VIP arrivals hall.
The Holy Light was then escorted by police to the Archbishopric of Cyprus, where it was to be handed over to Archbishop Georgios, before its transfer to the Exarchate of the Holy Sepulchre in Nicosia.
From Larnaca, the Holy Light is also set to be transported by air to Lebanon for Christians in Lebanon and Syria.
Motorcyclists gathered at the airport to distribute the Holy Light across all areas of government-controlled Cyprus.
