Heavy rain and dense fog in the Troodos area are affecting the road network as of Saturday morning, prompting police to issue an urgent safety warning to motorists.
While roads in the Troodos region remain open to all vehicles, authorities reported at 9:00 am that surfaces have become extremely slippery. Visibility is also described as dangerously limited due to the thick fog.
Police patrols are currently stationed across the mountain range to monitor the network and provide assistance. Officers have specifically identified hazards such as rock and soil slides on various road sections and the accumulation of water on the asphalt.
The Police are urging drivers to maintain low speeds, keep a safe distance from preceding vehicles, and ensure their headlights are switched on at all times. Extra caution is advised when passing through areas with standing water to avoid hydroplaning.
