Heavy hail struck the Limassol district on Thursday at noon, with landslides reported in the Louvaras–Kaló Chorió area, police said. The hail was concentrated in the Louvaras–Gerasas area.
Drivers are being urged to reduce speed and keep safe distances from vehicles ahead.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for heavy storms, hail, and strong winds, in force from 11:00am until 6:00pm.

A low pressure system is temporarily affecting the island, with a new weather disturbance expected to arrive from the west tomorrow. Sporadic dust is forecast in the atmosphere.
This afternoon will be partly cloudy with local rain and isolated storms. Hail is possible during storms, with winds shifting and strengthening. Winds will blow mainly north-westerly to north-easterly, locally south-easterly to south-westerly, light to moderate at 3–4 Beaufort, temporarily reaching strong force 5 on windward coasts. The sea will be slightly rough to rough.
Tonight
Locally increased cloud cover will bring isolated rain or storms tonight, mainly in coastal and mountain areas. Winds will be mainly westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3–4 Beaufort, locally up to strong force 5. The sea will be slightly rough to rough, turning rough later on windward coasts. Temperatures will fall to 9°C inland, around 10°C on the south and east coasts, around 13°C on the west and north coasts, and 3°C on the highest mountain peaks, where frost is possible.
Friday
Cloud will build initially in the west and north, bringing isolated rain or storms. From midday, conditions will become mainly overcast with local rain and isolated storms spreading more widely. Phenomena will be locally intense and prolonged, particularly on the west and south coasts. Hail is possible in storms, and snow or sleet is expected on the highest Troodos peaks.
Winds will be mainly south-westerly, light to moderate at 3–4 Beaufort, reaching strong force 4–5 on windward coasts and temporarily very strong force 6. The sea will be up to rough. Temperatures will reach 19°C inland, around 20°C on the south-east and east coasts, around 17°C on remaining coasts, and 8°C on the highest mountains.
The weekend and beyond
Periodic local rain and isolated storms are expected on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Hail is possible in storms, with snow or sleet again forecast for the highest Troodos peaks. Saturday’s phenomena may be intense or prolonged, mainly in the west and south.
Temperatures on Saturday will dip slightly below seasonal averages and remain there through Monday.
