A 34-year-old nightclub owner narrowly escaped death shortly after midnight on Wednesday when gunmen ambushed his vehicle at a red light in Protaras.
The victim, a Greek Cypriot known to the police, was driving his left-hand drive Hummer along Protaras-Cavo Greco Avenue. As he reached the Pernera traffic lights in Paralimni at 12:10 am, at least four bullets struck the vehicle.
Police believe two attackers had set an ambush in a nearby field before opening fire. Despite the gunfire hitting the car, the 34-year-old was not injured.

Famagusta Police cordoned off the scene to collect forensic evidence. Shortly before 1:00 am, a car was found burning in a field in Xylophagou, near the Ayia Napa-Rizoelia motorway within British Bases territory.

Investigators believe the attackers used the car to flee the shooting before setting it on fire and switching to a second getaway vehicle.

The site of the burnt-out car remains under guard by British Bases Police, while Famagusta CID continues its investigation.
