The government is accelerating procedures to provide one-off financial support to families affected by the catastrophic wildfire in the Limassol mountains.
According to sources, President Christodoulides this morning coordinated with relevant services, instructing them to immediately begin procedures to record information about homes that have been completely destroyed or suffered serious damage, as well as the composition of each family, so that authorities are ready to proceed with payments once they receive approval.
The payment process will begin after the Cabinet approves the measures announced by President Christodoulides. The Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Wednesday.
A government source said the measure aims to help every affected family and household address their immediate daily needs.
The amount is additional to any assistance for home restoration and covers immediate family requirements, including clothing, footwear, equipment for daily needs and generally for the loss of use of their homes.
Under the measure announced yesterday by President Christodoulides in his address, the one-off support will be paid within the next few days. Families whose primary residences were completely destroyed will receive €10,000 plus €2,000 for each dependent child.
Families whose primary residences were partially damaged will receive €5,000 plus €1,000 for each dependent child.
Vulnerable citizens will receive any additional individualised support required, the government said.
