Global food prices rose in July to their highest level in more than two years, driven by increases in international meat and vegetable oil prices, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) announced on Friday.
The FAO Food Price Index, a benchmark for basic commodity prices, averaged 130.1 points in July 2025, marking a 1.6% increase from June, the FAO said.
This represents the highest reading since February 2023, although the index remained 18.8% below its peak level in March 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The rise in meat and vegetable oil prices offset decreases observed in cereals, dairy products and sugar, the FAO said.
