The Health Insurance Organisation is rolling out a series of changes to the General Health System (GeSY) software from the early hours of tomorrow, affecting all beneficiaries as well as specific patient groups.
For all GeSY users, referrals for laboratory tests will be valid for 12 months rather than the current six. A barcode system will also be introduced for filling prescriptions at GeSY pharmacies: a barcode held in each patient’s electronic file can be presented at the pharmacy, allowing the pharmacist to scan it and access the prescription directly. Information on the new system has already been posted on the GeSY website.
Cancer patients will benefit from a change allowing doctors to prescribe laboratory tests even where the patient already holds a referral from another doctor.
A registry for multiple sclerosis patients is also being established. Once registered, MS patients will be able to visit a neurologist directly without a referral, reducing their co-payment from €25 to €6.
The changes will take effect following a system upgrade scheduled for tonight.
