Fire Service handles 43 weather incidents across Cyprus by late afternoon

The Fire Service responded to 43 incidents across Cyprus from the morning until 5.30 pm on Sunday because of severe weather, mainly strong winds, according to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis. The incidents mainly involved fallen or displaced trees, objects torn loose by the wind, water pumping and cable sparking.

Larnaca recorded the highest number of incidents with 18 responses, followed by Famagusta with 14, Limassol with nine, Nicosia with eight and Paphos with three. In addition, EMAK responded to one incident involving a fallen or displaced tree in the Kofinou area.

Incidents in Nicosia included water pumping, fallen or displaced trees, towing of immobilised vehicles and cable sparking. In Famagusta, beyond similar call-outs, there were also incidents involving objects torn loose, while separate reference was made to 14 incidents in the Paralimni-Deryneia area, two in Ayia Napa and five cases of cable sparking handled by an EAC crew.

In Paphos, the responses mainly involved water pumping, a fallen tree and cable sparking, according to the source text. In Larnaca, there were six incidents involving fallen or displaced trees, six involving objects torn loose by the wind and five involving cable sparking.

In Limassol, the Fire Service responded to incidents involving fallen trees, loose objects, including scaffolding and water tanks, as well as cable sparking, according to the source text.
