A violent collision on the Limassol–Nicosia motorway left two young men injured and a vehicle destroyed by fire in the early hours of this morning. Police received reports of the crash near the Mosfiloti exit at approximately 2:20 am, prompting an immediate response from the Pera Chorio Police Station.
Investigators established that the chaos began when a 31-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle, repeatedly slamming into both the left and right guardrails. The impact left his car disabled and stranded in the fast lane. After exiting the vehicle and activating his hazard lights, the 31-year-old took cover in the central reservation between the two carriageways.
Moments later, a car driven by a 20-year-old, with another 20-year-old passenger, smashed into the stationary vehicle in the right lane. The force of the collision ignited a blaze that rapidly engulfed the younger men’s car, burning it to a shell. Both 20-year-olds managed to escape the burning wreckage with minor injuries and were rushed by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital Emergency Department.
Breathalyser tests performed on both drivers returned negative results, ruling out alcohol as a factor in the incident. Officers from the Pera Chorio Police Station are currently leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
