A fire has broken out in a pile of rubbish near the Koshi Landfill, as confirmed by the Fire Service spokesperson, Andreas Kettis.
Three fire engines from the Larnaca Fire Stations have responded to the scene, and the Department of Environment has been informed, with an officer now on site.
For the preventative protection of the nearby forest, the Department of Forests remains on standby with three fire engines.
Additionally, the landfill’s management is using excavators and lorries to cover the piles with soil, a process expected to take several hours to complete.
