Fidias Panayiotou responded in a TikTok video to reports about him being examined by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office over allegations of misusing EU funds.
“They accused me of being the most dishonest and fraudulent MEP,” the Cypriot MEP said. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is examining an anonymous complaint against him regarding possible misappropriation of public funds.
Fidias rejected allegations that he pays the rent for the apartment where he lives with his fiancée using European Parliament money, claiming they live in a small space they rent for €1,200 and pay with their own money.
He also referred to a separate office near his apartment, which he uses as an office for his team and pays €2,300 rent. Of this, he claims €1,600 is paid by the European Parliament, whilst the remaining €700 comes from his own pocket. The reason he also pays, he said, is because he uses it for filming the podcasts he makes, something he said he informed the European Parliament about from the start.
Concluding, he vowed “absolute transparency” of his financial records.
