The EuroAsia Interconnector on Thursday announced the signing of a reservation agreement with Nexans Norway AS.
The agreement is a “critical step” towards the construction of the EuroAsia Interconnector, linking the national electricity grids of Israel, Cyprus and Greece with the European electricity grid, a EuroAsia Interconnector announcement said.
The agreement enables the commencement of works and ensures the reservation of the required manufacturing and installation capacity to design, manufacture, supply, install and test the onshore and offshore HVDC cable systems for the timely implementation of the world’s longest and deepest subsea electricity interconnector, the company explained.
The EuroAsia Interconnector is a leading 2,000 MW multi-terminal interconnector that connects the national electricity grids of Cyprus, Greece (Crete) and Israel with continental Europe.
It will be the longest (1,208km) and deepest (up to 3,000m) HVDC interconnector in the world.
EuroAsia Interconnector is expected to end the energy isolation of Cyprus.
Construction works will begin soon at an area near Kophinou under the administration of Germany’s Siemens and the deadline is 2027.
