Estonia seeks extradition after police catch organised crime suspect at Larnaca Airport

Cypriot police arrested a 35-year-old Ukrainian man holding an Israeli passport at Larnaca Airport who was attempting to leave the country, officials said.

The man was detained under a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Estonia in connection with his suspected participation in a criminal organisation.

The suspect appeared at the airport yesterday afternoon. During a routine passport check, authorities discovered he was wanted under the EAW, which stems from an organised crime investigation conducted in the Baltic state.

Members of the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID) presented the 35-year-old suspect before the Larnaca District Court today, where a judge ordered his detention. The court set 11 December as the deadline for the relevant documents supporting the extradition request to be formally lodged.

The Ministry of Justice is handling the case, providing all necessary documents related to Estonia’s request for the man’s arrest and extradition through legal assistance. Authorities are now awaiting the 35-year-old’s response on whether he will consent to or challenge his extradition to Estonia.
