€65,000 cash stolen from businessman’s car in Paphos

A 59-year-old restaurateur in Paphos lost €65,000 in cash after thieves broke into his vehicle overnight Monday, stealing money he had left in the boot intending to deposit at a bank the following morning.

The businessman discovered that his car’s rear window had been smashed and the vehicle ransacked when he returned Tuesday morning to collect the cash for his planned bank visit, police said.

Restaurant owner left bank deposit overnight in vehicle

The victim, who operates in the catering sector, parked his car outside his residence in Paphos city Monday evening with a bag containing €65,000 stored in the boot area.

Police investigations indicate the theft occurred during overnight hours, with criminals gaining access by breaking the rear window before locating and stealing the cash.

Examinations suggest the perpetrators acted with specific targeting, potentially having monitored the businessman’s movements or possessed prior knowledge of his practice of storing cash amounts in his vehicle.

The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case.
