Drunk driver arrested after striking pedestrian in Limassol

A 49-year-old man remains in custody after hitting a pedestrian while driving significantly over the legal alcohol limit in Limassol on Sunday afternoon. The victim sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalised.

Afternoon Collision on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou

The crash occurred at approximately 15:00 on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou Street. According to police reports, the 49-year-old Greek Cypriot was driving eastbound when his vehicle struck a 47-year-old foreign national who is a permanent resident of Cyprus. At the time of the impact, the woman was attempting to cross the road from north to south alongside two other individuals.

Severe Internal Injuries

Emergency services rushed the 47-year-old to a private hospital. Initial medical assessments confirm she has suffered serious injuries, including fractured ribs. Doctors have admitted her for ongoing treatment and monitoring.

Driver Four Times Over the Limit
Traffic officers at the scene administered a breathalyser test to the driver. The final reading showed 93 mg%, more than four times the legal limit of 22 mg%. Police immediately arrested the man, and he remains in detention while traffic authorities investigate the exact circumstances of the collision.
