DISY MP may lose immunity over domestic abuse case

DISY MP Nikos Sykas appeared before the Supreme Court on Monday as prosecutors moved to strip him of parliamentary immunity over allegations of psychological violence and abuse.

The court set a hearing on the Law Office’s immunity waiver request for Thursday, 15 January 2025, at noon.

Sykas’s lawyer, Christos Pourgourides, did not object to the immunity waiver request but said he wished to comment on certain issues in writing.

The Attorney General submitted his positions to the court on Monday. According to the filing, the MP is considered a suspect for offences of psychological violence and abuse.

The court also issued an order preventing Sykas from approaching the alleged victim.

Speaking outside the court, Sykas said, “Immunity does not represent me. I absolutely believe in equality before the law. Although the case has been withdrawn, I am fully facilitating justice”.
