Digital documents stored on Cyprus’s official Digital Citizen app carry the same legal weight as physical ones and must be accepted without exception by all organisations, companies and service providers in the Republic — and refusal to do so is legally equivalent to turning away the physical document itself.
The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy issued the reminder, urging all organisations to begin accepting digital documents without delay in all in-person transactions with the public.
The app allows Cypriot citizens with a CY Login account to store digital versions of public documents on their phone. It currently supports the national ID card, driving licence, vehicle MOT certificate and Fan Card, with further documents — including those for foreign nationals — due to be added during 2026.
Since May 2025, the app has been linked to Greece’s Gov.gr Wallet. Cypriot citizens can now present their digital ID and driving licence in Greece exactly as they would at home; Greek citizens can do the same in Cyprus using Gov.gr Wallet.
Checking a document’s authenticity requires no special equipment — only the app itself, downloaded on any mobile phone. The person carrying out the check does not need a CY Login account.
