Revenue from tourism saw a surge of 26.9% during the January to July 2023 period when compared to the corresponding period in 2022, as indicated by the findings of the Passengers Survey conducted by the Cyprus Statistical Service. These results were published on Tuesday.
Tourism revenue for this timeframe is estimated at €1,544.7 million, a significant increase from the €1,217.4 million recorded in the same period of 2022.
Throughout this year, tourism revenue exhibited consistent growth, with each month surpassing its 2022 counterpart.
In July 2023 alone, tourism revenue reached €454.6 million, marking a 19.1% increase from the €381.7 million recorded in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Expenditure Analysis
The average expenditure per person in July 2023 was €867.96, up by 3.4% compared to July 2022, when it stood at €839.50. Tourists from the Netherlands recorded the highest per capita expenditure, with an average of €1,165.20, whereas tourists from Greece had the lowest expenditure at €380.56.
Tourists from the United Kingdom, comprising the largest share of tourists at 33.6% in July 2023, spent an average of €94.23 per day. Meanwhile, tourists from Israel, the second-largest market with 12.4% of total tourists during that month, had an average daily expenditure of €135.44. Tourists from Poland, the third-largest market at 5.5%, spent an average of €78.66 per day.
The highest daily expenditure came from tourists from Lebanon, spending an average of €162.52 per day. However, their average stay in Cyprus was relatively short, at 5.8 days. On the contrary, tourists from Greece had the lowest daily expenditure at €35.90 but had one of the longest average stays, lasting 10.6 days.
Total arrivals in July 2023 reached 523,718, a significant increase from the 454,657 arrivals recorded in July 2022.
