Cyprus tourism is heading for another record year, with arrivals and revenues reaching new levels that cap off what officials are calling the sector’s absolute recovery period.
The mountains are experiencing their own summer right now, according to Konstantinos Konstantinou, an official with the Troodos Tourism Development and Promotion Company. Speaking to Sigma yesterday, he said increased attendance at Christmas Villages is delivering an economic boost to mountain areas, with weekends seeing large numbers of visitors heading up for day trips or overnight stays.
The Cyprus Hotels Association (PASYXE) announced yesterday that member hotels are launching specially designed holiday packages for the final days of the year, offering unique experiences at mountain and seaside destinations across Cyprus. The association is calling on the public to visit its website to select packages and book directly with participating hotels.
Christmas Villages have won over a large segment of the population and mark huge success with multiple benefits for mountain communities, Konstantinou said. The institution changed the picture completely—during winter, villages are not a popular destination except on days when snow falls, but the Christmas Villages reversed this.
Significant investments in mountain areas completed in recent years have breathed new life into long-degraded regions.
Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis recently told the ACTTA General Assembly that the 2023-2025 period can be characterised as “the absolute recovery period for Cypriot tourism”.
Estimates for next year remain positive based on signals from abroad, whilst the PASYXE initiative aims to boost domestic tourist activity during the holidays.
