Undeclared work remains at controlled and single-digit levels, but there seems to be a problem with regard to the illegal employment of third-country nationals.
This follows from the results of the first month of the two-month joint campaign of the Ministries of Labour and Interior to combat undeclared and illegal work by third-country nationals, released yesterday.
The campaign focused on checks in the construction industry, hotels and leisure centres. For the first time, the Ministry of Labour also had direct access to data from the Population and Immigration Registry Department.
Specifically, official data shows that between August 28 and September 22, there were inspections covering 418 employers and 1,387 employees nationwide. Of the 1,387 employees, 98 (7%) were undeclared – of whom 66% (67 persons) were foreigners from third countries.
And this led to issued administrative fines totalling €157,900.
