Cyprus farmers join pan-European protest against EU agricultural policy (photos)

Farmers across Cyprus will take to the streets on Thursday, 18 December, joining a pan-European protest against the European Union’s new agricultural policy.

Preparation began today, with farmers in various provinces already positioning their tractors at roadsides.

Kyriakos Kailas, president of Panagrotic, said in statements from Dromolaxia that Thursday’s mobilisation will be a peaceful protest towards the house of Europe.

“We will send our messages; we have already sent a memorandum to the European Commissioner through which we request revision of this catastrophic policy,” he said.

Farmers are also preparing to protest problems they face in Cyprus, such as non-payment of subsidies mainly for grain producers, warning of escalation if the issue is not resolved.
