Temperatures will plunge to 7 degrees Celsius inland tonight in what will be the coldest night of winter so far, with snow forecast for Troodos peaks and frost forming in mountain areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Mountain regions will see temperatures fall to around 2°C with local frost, whilst coastal areas will drop to around 10°C. The highest peaks of Troodos will see snow or sleet alongside isolated rain showers elsewhere.
A weak low pressure system is affecting the area, bringing partly cloudy skies and winds from the northwest to northeast. Coastal areas will face moderate to strong winds at force 4-5, whilst inland regions will see weaker conditions at force 3-4. The sea will be slightly rough to rough.
High pressure moves in from Wednesday, bringing mainly clear skies and a sharp temperature rise. Inland areas will warm to around 18°C, coastal regions to 19°C, and higher mountains to 6°C. Northeasterly winds will remain moderate to strong at force 4-5, with slightly rough to rough seas.
Wednesday evening will stay mainly clear with lighter northwest to northeasterly winds at force 3-4 and slightly rough seas.
Thursday will remain mainly clear before partly cloudy conditions return on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will rise on Thursday and hold steady through the weekend, staying slightly above average for this time of year.
