Cypriots race to squeeze in one more trip before 2025 ends

An interesting and very recent survey shows that Cypriot travellers have not yet “written off” 2025, even though little time remains to complete the year, since a large percentage say they want to proceed with one more experience, mainly travel, before 2026.

The survey was conducted for Mastercard and covered 20 countries, including Cyprus.

The survey showed that Europeans are determined to make the most of the final period before the end of 2025, since many, as they stated, still have unused holiday days and big plans to complete before the arrival of 2026.

The data concerning Cypriots are particularly significant, since through the survey, which examined over 20,000 Europeans in total, it was found that almost half (47%) still have from 7 to 20+ days of annual leave for 2025, with the largest percentage (19%) having 7-10 days to use.

In fact, at this point Cyprus records first place, since the countries with the highest percentages of available leave days in the 7-20+ day range are Cyprus with 69%, Switzerland with 56% and Bulgaria with 55%.

1 in 3… will manage it

Cypriots’ interest in catching up on what they have set as goals by the end of the year remains particularly high. In total, 71.8% stated they still have experiences they want to live within 2025.

Of these, 38.2% seek to carry out one more experience, whilst 33.6% want to complete more than one.

Their attitude towards whether they will manage reflects the general mood prevailing: 34.54% consider it likely they will make it, 26.60% feel confident and enthusiastic, whilst 36.77% state they very much want to live these experiences but are not certain if they will manage.

This trend is recorded in all age groups in Cyprus. The disposition appears particularly strong among younger people, with 71.7% of Generation Z and 74.5% of Millennials stating they still have goals and experiences they want to carry out during the year.

It remains strong in older ages too, where 61.7% of Generation X and 75% of Baby Boomers express the same intention. These data confirm that the “year of experiences” concerns all generations in Cyprus, without exception.

They prefer travel

As in the rest of Europe, Cypriots show particular preference for travel experiences.

Their top choices include a trip to a dream destination with 39.55%, trying a new outdoor activity with 21.73% and attending a performance or concert they always wanted with 19.78%.

Other choices recorded are attending a major sporting event with 10.45%, visiting a top restaurant with 2.65% or a Christmas market with 1.25%.

Serbs more optimistic

In contrast to Cypriots’ partial optimism, a higher percentage is recorded in Europe.

Specifically, more than two in three Europeans (67%) believe it is likely or certain they will manage to complete at least one of the experiences they have set as a goal for 2025, whilst optimism peaks in countries such as Serbia with 82%, Sweden with 72%, Spain with 71% and France with 71%.

Regarding the difficulties Europeans face in achieving this goal, first place is recorded by the need for additional savings with 23%, searching for the “perfect moment” with 13%, or lack of free time due to work and obligations with 12%.
