President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to Iceland’s Reykjavik today to attend the 4th Council of Europe summit, the first to take place in 18 years.

Christodoulides will attend the reception hosted by the Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir for heads of state or government participating in the summit, before heading to the opening ceremony themed “United around our values.”

In the evening, the President will participate in a roundtable discussion titled “Safeguarding democracy in challenging times – risks, resilience, and recovery.”

Once finished, Christodoulides will then attend a working dinner with the heads of state or government and with Pejčinović Burić, during which discussions are expected to revolve around the situation in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the President will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte.

Following that, he will sign an expanded partial agreement concerning the recording of damages caused to Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion, before taking part in a debate called “United for Europe”, during which he will make an intervention.

Afterwards, Christodoulides will have separate meetings with the Permanent Representative of the US to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield, as well as the President of Moldova Maia Sandu and the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela.

At noon he will attend the summit’s closing ceremony, during which the Reykjavik Declaration’s adoption will be formally announced and the presidency of the Council of Europe will be handed over from Iceland to Latvia.
