Three campaign groups have called on the Cypriot government to clarify whether British bases in Cyprus were used for military strikes in Syria, citing flight tracking data they say shows RAF aircraft travelling from the region towards Syria on Saturday evening.
Cyprus Palestine Solidarity Action, Far Right Watch and Genocide-Free Cyprus said their monitoring of open-source flight data showed at least one RAF Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft and one Typhoon fighter jet travelling from the region towards Syria when strikes were reported.
The groups said the movements “strongly support claims that UK military assets operating from bases in Cyprus were involved in, or facilitated, the attack,” referencing reports published by Cyprus Mail.

The organisations said the Cypriot government has offered no clear response or public explanation regarding the alleged use of UK bases for offensive military operations.
“This continued lack of reaction is a clear indication that the authorities are content to remain silent on UK military activity conducted from Cyprus, even when such actions may have direct consequences for the country’s security,” the groups said in a statement on Wednesday.
They demanded the government state whether it was informed of the operations in advance, arguing that if authorities were aware, “the public has the right to know why this information was withheld.”
The groups said silence on such activity “signals approval and undermines Cypriot sovereignty,” and warned that allowing military operations from the island “is actively placing a target on Cyprus.”
The organisations also claimed that over the past two years, more than 600 surveillance and intelligence-gathering flights linked to operations over Gaza have operated from Cyprus, sharing intelligence with Israel. They said the government has failed to condemn these activities.
The groups demanded the government publicly clarify whether it was informed of UK operations, take a stance against the use of the island for foreign military strikes, demand transparency from the UK regarding base activities, and act to ensure Cyprus is not drawn into regional conflicts.
